Impurity Effects on Stripe Phase in La2-xBaxCuO4

Effects of magnetic impurities (substitution of Cu by Ni) on the static spin stripe phase and superconductivity were studied in La2-xBaxCuO4 (x=1/8) by means of X-ray Diffraction (XRD), muon spin rotation (μSR), and magnetization experiments. It was found that the impurities strongly suppress the superconductivity as well as the magnetic order in the stripe phase. This points to the interaction between superconductivity and the static spin stripe phase in La2-xBaxCuO4 (x=1/8). The nature of this interaction is not clear yet and needs further experimental and theoretical investigations.
