Georgia and Global Tendencies of Population Aging

ANNOTATION Demographic aging of population is a global process. For 2050 the number of old people in developed countries of the World will be two times more than the number of children. According to the prognosis of the specialists of the United Nations Organization the number of people in developed countries will be two times more than it is now, and this tendency will bring serious results for the countries and their citizens. Georgia is among the demographically aged countries. The above mentioned process especially become stronger in the 90-ies of the passed century, which had been conditioned by sharp declining of birth and increasing of migration processes of unprecedented scale . The process of demographic aging of population is especially actual for Georgia as well. As the process of aging is rapidly going on and our country has not collected enough resources, as it happened in other countries of Market Economics of West Europe. The goal of investigation is to study and to analyze the trends of demographic aging of population of the world and Georgia as well, on the basis of appropriate statistic information and different indexes. Definite attention was devoted to the perspectives of demographic aging of population of Georgia. As a result of demographic aging of population the social-economical systems would not continue their existence in its original form. It is necessary to reorganize them according to the modern demands. According to the data of 2012 , the number of the people of 65 years old and older (among the total number of the country population) was 2 times more (7%,) than the standard of UNO population age. In Georgia, the process of demographic aging of women and men especially was accelerated since 1990 years, which was conditioned by a significant reduction in fertility and by an wide range of migration processes. Due to these facts the number of men and women of high age in the whole number of population, was constantly increasing. In last years, in Georgia, the number of population of retirement age is constantly rising, which is caused by becoming the Second World War generation of this age. The most aging regions in Georgia are: Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti, Guria and Kakheti. According to the general population census (in 1989-2002) of Georgia, it is studied and analyzed the number of centenarians (people of 80 years old and older ) among the population of retirement age. At the same time the same index has been studied and analyzed among the population of 90 years old and more age people. On the basis of UNO specialists’ prognosis, for the period of 2020-2100 years are calculated the indexes of the population aging, the coefficients of potential support and the parents support within the whole number of the population of 85 years old and older. Expected changes of demographic and medial age of population up to the end of the 21st century have been also calculated .
